As May gently pulled autumn across the bushveld, a crispness began to creep into the air — subtle hints that winter is on its way. But while the mornings feel fresher and the evenings call for cozy fires, the spirit of the bush remains as alive as ever. At The Springbok Lodge, KZN (situated on the Big 5 Nambiti Private Game Reserve), cooler temperatures haven’t cooled the action — just the opposite!
Wildlife Sightings
From playful elephant bulls engaging in light-hearted sparring to incredible lion and cheetah sightings, the wildlife has kept guests wide-eyed and camera-ready. One of the month’s more surprising highlights? Porcupines — sometimes spotted during afternoon game drives, even with tiny babies in tow, as well as incredible hippo sightings out the water. Proof once again that the bush never fails to deliver something unexpected.

Community Spirit
On the community front, May has been a proud and meaningful month for us. Two of our team members reached major milestones in their careers, qualifying through the International Hotel School. Sanele Mavimbela, who began his journey with us as a waiter in 2017, now serves as our Duty Manager and is officially qualified in Hospitality Management. Nontobeko Phakati, who started in 2020, gained her qualification in Professional Cookery and continues to shine as one of our talented chefs.
These achievements are made possible through the Springbok Training Fund — a reflection of our deep commitment to uplifting not only our team but the wider community we’re part of.

As we step into June, we’re embracing the best of winter in the bush — from crackling fires under the stars to incredible wildlife sightings. And for those dreaming of a winter escape, don’t miss our unbeatable Winter Special: 20% OFF your stay.
