Winter Magic at The Springbok Lodge
Winter has truly settled over the Nambiti Private Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal, and with it comes a unique kind of beauty. Crisp mornings, golden sunsets, and the fresh chill in the air all contribute to a breathtaking safari experience.
While the temperatures may have dropped, that hasn’t stopped our guests from heading out on game drives and enjoying everything this special time of year has to offer. Hot water bottles and snuggly ponchos on the vehicles keep everyone cozy during early drives, while electric blankets are switched on in the evenings to ensure a warm and welcoming return after a day in the bush.
Wildlife Sightings
This month has been filled with incredible sightings across the reserve, reminding us once again why winter is such a rewarding time for safari.
A standout highlight has been the appearance of the two new cheetah cubs—bringing smiles to everyone lucky enough to spot them. We’ve also enjoyed several memorable encounters with the famous cheetah brothers, who have been seen walking confidently past game viewers on multiple occasions.
Both the Northern and Southern lion prides have been active, offering exceptional photographic opportunities. Elephant sightings have also been frequent, including large breeding herds and impressive lone bulls moving through the reserve. We’ve had consistent buffalo sightings, rounding out fantastic Big 5 viewing. And in a rare twist—a python was seen basking near one of the dams, adding a touch of reptilian wonder to the month’s highlights!

Community Spirit
This month also marked the beginning of groundwork for some of our community outreach projects. At The Springbok Lodge, we believe in giving back and supporting the communities around us.
One initiative currently in development is called “Bring a Book”. This project invites guests staying with us to bring along secondhand books in good condition to donate to local schools. Many schools in the surrounding area lack proper libraries or reading corners, and we’re excited to be taking steps toward helping change that.
We’ll be launching more details soon, including how you can get involved during your next stay.
