August brought with it a hint of spring — longer, warmer days and a touch of new life in the bush. At Springbok Lodge, located in the heart of the Nambiti Private Game Reserve, it was a month filled with excitement and activity. From burning essential fire breaks around the lodge to enjoying unforgettable safari experiences, August was nothing short of fantastic.

Wildlife Sightings

It has been an incredible month for wildlife sightings! Many mornings began with a soft blanket of mist across the reserve, creating a magical atmosphere before the bush came alive. Guests were treated to unforgettable moments, including lions and cheetahs on kills, as well as other Big 5 encounters. Beyond the big sightings, there were plenty of smaller but equally special ones — from South Africa’s beautiful national bird, the blue crane, to a steenbok curled up so still it looked like a rock. We also enjoyed remarkable hippo sightings close to the lodge, adding to what has truly been a month to remember.

Lodge Update

This month, with the assistance of the Nambiti Reserve team, we burned firebreaks around the lodge. It was an exciting morning of towering flames, fire beaters, and plenty of water spraying! Creating these firebreaks is an essential task to help keep the lodge and surrounding environment safe. To top it off, we were treated to a special sighting of elephants right in front of the lodge — a reminder of the magic of living in the bush.

A Special Moment

We recently joined the reserve team for a dehorning event, giving us the opportunity to witness firsthand the vital work being done to protect our wildlife. From feeling the pulse of a rhino through its tail, to seeing their feet up close, and watching the vet and team work with such dedication, it was both humbling and inspiring. A powerful reminder of the extraordinary efforts that go into protecting these incredible animals in Nambiti Private Game Reserve.
