Someone once said, “Don’t look back. You’re not going that way.” And while we are very excited to move into 2026 and see what incredible wildlife sightings and guest experiences come our way, we are going to look back — just for this blog post — because 2025 held a lot of truly memorable moments for us at The Springbok Lodge and Nambiti Private Game Reserve.
As we reflect on the year, we’re excited to share some of the moments that made 2025 so special. From incredible wildlife encounters to community projects and unforgettable guest experiences, these six highlights capture why The Springbok Lodge continues to be such a unique and cherished Big 5 traditional safari lodge.
-
Welcoming Seven Cheetah Cubs
One of the most significant moments of the year was welcoming seven cheetah cubs onto Nambiti Private Game Reserve — the first cheetah cubs born here in 13 years. Watching them grow over time has been incredibly rewarding, not just for our team, but for every guest lucky enough to see them. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of long-term conservation and consistent wildlife protection.

An Unforgettable Leopard and Lion Sighting
Some wildlife moments stay with you long after the game drive ends. One such experience in 2025 was witnessing a leopard being followed by lions — a rare and intense encounter that left guides and guests alike in quiet awe. It was a vivid reminder of the raw, unpredictable beauty of the Nambiti Private Game Reserve.

- Special Moments Shared with Guests
Beyond sightings, some of the most memorable experiences came from time spent with our guests. River picnics, surprise engagements, impromptu lodge moments, and special seasonal celebrations — like Easter when the lodge is taken over for festivities and Easter egg hunts — created memories that linger far beyond the stay. We also loved hosting PlayZN for a truly memorable visit, including the excitement of being on air with the team and sharing the lodge experience with a wider audience. These are the moments that turn a visit into something personal and unforgettable.

-
Giving Back to the Community
Throughout 2025, The Springbok Lodge continued to support the local community in practical and meaningful ways. From assisting with food for local rugby clinic days and helping collect school uniforms, to celebrating the graduation of two Springbok community staff members through our training fund, these initiatives may not always be visible to guests but form an important part of our values.

-
Experiencing Conservation Up Close
One of the most unique experiences of 2025 was having the opportunity to join the incredible anti-poaching unit alongside some of our guests to take part in a rhino dehorning operation. Witnessing conservation work up close offered a rare insight into the dedication, effort, and care that goes into protecting wildlife on the reserve.

- Two Beautiful Celebrations on the Reserve
2025 was also a year of celebration. One of the highlights was marking Nambiti’s 25th birthday, a milestone that reflects years of conservation, dedication, and care for this extraordinary landscape.
Alongside this, the reserve hosted another special event, bringing people together to celebrate life, connection, and shared experiences in the bush. These occasions reminded us that the reserve is not only a haven for wildlife, but also a place for meaningful human moments.

- Christmas at the Lodge and Wendy’s Tree
Christmas at The Springbok Lodge is always special, but 2025 felt particularly memorable. Celebrating the festive season in the bush brings a sense of calm and togetherness that is hard to find elsewhere.
A standout feature was Wendy’s Christmas tree, thoughtfully created and full of character. What makes it so special is that it’s different every year — and in 2025, it included both an indoor and an outdoor tree. It became a focal point of the lodge, reflecting the warmth, creativity, and care that go into making guests feel at home during the festive season.

Looking Ahead
As we move into 2026, we’re grateful for the wildlife moments, celebrations, community initiatives, and shared experiences with our guests that defined 2025. It’s a reminder that it’s the combination of nature, people, and time that makes The Springbok Lodge truly special.
We look forward to welcoming guests back and creating many more memorable moments this 2026 – we hope that you will be a part of it!
